Homemade Croutons

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Dice French bread (fresh or stale) into 1/2 to 3/4 inch cubes.

Place on baking sheet.

Drizzle(don't soak) with olive oil or garlic oil and toss with hands until all sides are well coated.

Optional: Sprinkle with salt, garlic salt or garlic powder.

Bake approximately 5 minutes. Remove from oven and toss/shake (to ensure croutons are evenly toasted). Return to oven to bake until light brown (approximately 5 more minutes).

Remove from oven and cool completely. Store croutons in an airtight container or use on salads.

I hope all your readers will start making their own croutons after reading this. It is so easy to make croutons, and they are vastly superior to anything you can buy in a box or bag! Really, once someone has a homemade crouton, I don't think they could possibly go back to store-bought!

i had no idea they were this easy!! and i like that you said fresh or stale- i think that's partly why i haven't done it. we don't keep stale bread in the house? what difference if any, does it make to use fresh vs stale?
